Phillip Sporton
President Director of telkomtelstra
On Friday 7 November 2014, I attended the IDC Asia/Pacific Telecom Summit in Singapore.
This was a truly international event with companies, ideas and methodologies being represented from across the Asia-Pacific. Events like this are incredibly important to share and to gain a better understanding on best practice, new trends, developments and opportunities. As a relatively new member of the Asia Pacific business community, events like this provide a unique opportunity to listen and understand key priorities and opportunities in the region.
The key note address was around the top trends for telecommunications service providers in the Asia Pacific for 2015. The expansion of data usage, the challenge of migration and the need for cross platform and multi device access resonated most as key themes. Another key topic that was prominent throughout the event was the evolution of strategic partnerships. There is a very interesting growing trend in the region around the amalgamation of businesses from different industries and backgrounds into partnerships of varying forms. This is but one tenant of globalisation in the world that we live and with this comes enormous opportunities for companies like Telstra and joint ventures like ours.
Dustin Kehoe, Program Director at IDC Asia/Pacific explained how this year’s awards submissions were incredibly competitive, which underscores how service providers are changing their business models and channel strategy. With over 100 nominations submitted to IDC from throughout Asia, I was honoured and delighted to accept the ‘Most Innovative Partnership’ award together with Pak Rizkan Chandra, Director of Network IT & Solution at Telkom Indonesia for our joint venture to deliver network, applications and services to enterprise customers operating in Indonesia. Being a recipient of this award so early on in our journey is wonderful recognition of the collaboration and innovation that both Telkom Indonesia and Telstra have shown throughout the formation of the joint venture.
The Telkom Indonesia and Telstra joint venture is an innovative strategic partnership that will leverage Telkom Indonesia’s existing infrastructure, local insights and the strength of its relationship with enterprise customers. Telstra brings to the partnership its experience in developing, designing and delivering networks, applications and services to enterprise customers, the knowledge of its people and proven capabilities.
This award signifies the beginning of what will be a long and successful partnership and a first step in achieving the ambitious targets that we have set for ourselves. It symbolises the union of Indonesia and Australia culture and values and I am a very proud of our team’s efforts throughout our journey to date. Thank you once again to IDC for this accolade and here’s to many more!
